Prayer is more than just words; it is inviting God to change us.

In Acts 1:12-26 we find the first church waiting on God and praying. I love the fact that they prayed first before they went and did. Often, we can get it all around the wrong way. We do and then we pray, “God thanks for this or
God sorry about that!’

We can approach God with an attitude at times of trying to get God to do something for us. It’s like we are praying, “God, do this, do that, and do this and this, then do that.” Is prayer about us trying to get God to do something or about allowing God to do something with us?

I believe that prayer is not about trying to move God; it should be about moving us. It’s not telling God something he doesn’t know; it’s for God to tell us something that we don’t know. It’s not to change the heart of God; it’s to
change our heart. God uses prayer to change us.

When we have an understanding of this, it’s like we say, “God, I’m sorry that I’m bossing you around. God, I’m sorry that I think I know everything. God, I’m sorry that I don’t trust you. God, I’m sorry that I seem to think I live on a throne and you’re ready to take my orders.” When we realize that we have been trying to use prayer in a manner it was never intended and we seek forgiveness for it, it is then that we are inviting God to change us.

Acts 1:24 tells us, “...they all prayed, “O Lord, you know every heart…” God knows our heart and our attitude. We need to pray and be open to the change he desires to do in us. This is an important time for WBC. With all that is happening now, the planning for the future and for a future ‘new’ Pastor. So, let’s pray. Isaiah 30:15
