“For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
This verse beautifully reminds us that true strength and salvation are found not in striving or anxiety, but in turning back to God with a trusting heart. The word “returning” speaks of repentance—a humble turning away from self-reliance and back to the Lord. “Rest” points to the peace that comes when we trust His promises rather than our own efforts. “Quietness” is the calm of a heart anchored in God’s presence, and “confidence” is the steady faith that He is in control.
In a world that values busyness and self-sufficiency, God calls His people to find life, peace, and power in Him alone. When we pause, pray, and place our confidence in His Word, we are strengthened from within. Our salvation and strength do not come from what we do, but from who we rest in — the Holy One of Israel.
